A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF CHRISTIAN GOTHICA (Part II)

The Principles of Christian Goth

I
The Acceptance Principle

• Romans 15:7
“Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”

• 1 Samuel 16:7
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

 Interpretation:
These two passages both center on acceptance of all, despite the way they look; for, of course, no one can trust an appearance, but must look at the heart of the person in question and only then can they truly see them.

II
The “Witness to the Nations” Principle

• Mark 16:15
“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’”

• Romans 12:21
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

• Mark 2: 15-17
“And as he sat at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were sitting with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, ‘Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.’”

 Interpretation
These passages call us to go out into the world and be among the sinners and nonbelievers, comfort them, and preach the Good Word.

III
The Compassion Principle

• Psalm 82:2-5
“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.”

 Interpretation
You are called to walk among the wicked and unwanted and spread the news of God. As a Christian, you are also called to encourage them and display kindness and compassion towards all.

IV
The “Only the Sick Need Physicians” Principle

• Mark 1:41-42
(Speaking of the leper who besought Jesus to heal him) “Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, ‘I will; be clean.’ And immediately the leprosy left, and he was made clean.”

• Mark 2:15-17
(Previously listed)

 Interpretation
In the first passage, Jesus touched the leper first, an action that was considered deadly and would make any other man unclean in society, and then healed him. The message that came to me during this passage was this: Do not fear to embrace the weak, for they are the ones who need it the most.
